Birthparent-to-Birthparent Mentorship

Birthparent-to-Birthparent Mentorship Program

Sometimes the most powerful support comes from someone who has walked the same path.

Our Birthparent-to-Birthparent Mentorship Program connects you with a fellow birthparent in the Shared Journeys community. Someone who understands your experience firsthand and can offer a listening ear, honest conversation, and genuine encouragement. Because healing is easier when you don't have to do it alone, and even easier when the person beside you truly gets it.

Is This Program Right for You?

A great mentee is open, engaged, and ready to grow. Someone who is in a stable place emotionally, has other sources of support in their life, and understands that a mentor is a guide, not a fixer.

A great mentor is compassionate, self-aware, and committed. A good listener who is emotionally grounded, honest, culturally respectful, and aligned with Shared Journeys' mission and values. Mentors have typically done their own healing work through therapy, retreats, or similar experiences.

When it comes to matching, we're thoughtful and intentional. We consider shared experiences, personalities, interests, and location when possible. Our goal is a connection that feels natural and meaningful, not just convenient.

How It Works

Mentee applications open in late winter, with sessions running March through October. The close is organic — when both mentor and mentee feel ready, you'll wrap up in a way that feels right.

Pairs connect one to two times a month in whatever way works best — in person, virtually, by phone, text, or email. Your first meeting should happen within two weeks of being matched and is all about introductions, setting expectations, and beginning to explore your goals. We have a goal-setting worksheet to help guide those early conversations.

Mentor applications are welcome year-round. Reach out to Jennifer Adams to get started. Or, apply here (insert link).

A note on waitlists

We often have more interested mentees than available mentors. Being approved doesn't guarantee an immediate match, but if we can't pair you right away, we'll add you to our waitlist and follow up before the next session. Finding the right match is worth the wait!
