Case Management

What is Case Management? Think of your case manager as someone firmly in your corner. They'll work with you one-on-one to figure out what you need — and then help you get there. No cookie-cutter plans, no checking boxes. Everything is built around you.

At the heart of our case management is a deep understanding of the grief and trauma that can come with placing a child for adoption. We meet you there, without judgment, and walk alongside you toward healing.

Here's how it works: together, you and your case manager will start where you are (whether that's in the early days after placement or years down the road) to figure out what healing and support look like for you and create a plan of action. From there, they'll connect you to community resources and providers, and check in with you regularly to track and celebrate your progress. You'll also have access to Shared Journeys' own programming, designed to foster a real sense of community and belonging. From peer mentoring to ugly sweater holiday parties, we've built a vibrant, supportive community of birthparents who are all on this journey together.

Case management support can include help with:

  • Finding qualified therapists, coaches, and counselors
  • Setting and working toward educational and career goals
  • Budget planning and financial counseling resources
  • Identifying parenting and childcare resources
  • Connecting to the Shared Journeys birthparent community
  • Recognizing and building on your individual strengths
  • Advocating for you when you need it most

Ready to get started? If your agency is not yet a member of the Birthparent Support Alliance, there may be a short waitlist to be matched with a case manager — but you don't have to wait to get support. You can join our birthparent support groups and birthparent retreats right away.
